Rod and Reel for bedding bass

Featured Replies

Simple question.  If you were in Florida fishing for bedding bass would you use a spinning reel with 12" flouro or would you go with a baitcaster?  What applications would you use a spinning reel?

For bedding fish, either would really be fine.  If you can toss a spinner bait as accurately as a baitcaster.  It also depends on what lures you are using.  Lighter lures may be better suited for a spinner gear and heavier ones on the biatcaster.  Also if you are going to pitch or flip into the bed, go with a baitcaster.

Most of the stuff I use for bed fishing i throw on a BC.  But when the bite is tough and they don't seem interested in the big stuff, I'll either throw a drop shot or wacky rig on spinning gear.  Both have their time and place.
