Buying a new rod

Featured Replies

(Sorry for the double post, I also posted this is the Tackle section but decided it was better suited here)

OK, so heres the deal. I used to fish almost daily when I was younger but soon lost time due to work and school.  I just recently got back into fishing this past year and it was just like riding a bike as everything came back to me almost instinctively.

I never sold any of my gear but a small fire took out a couple of my rods so now I am down to 3; 2 casting rods and 1 spinning.  I am looking to add a new casting rod to my arsenal and want something that can be used for numerous tactics.

Currently I have:

- 6' Medium Action Fenwick HTX

- 6'6" MH Fenwick HTX

I predominantly throw plastics but also fish a lot of jerkbaits and topwater in the warmer months.  Price range is somewhere between $100-$180.

Any suggestions or favorites that you guys own??

Thanks in advance.

In that price range,

Shimano Crucial

Carrot Stix LTX

Kistler Magnesium

If you want to stay with Fenwick,

Amazon, believe it or not, has great every day prices.  Techna AV's in the $150 to $160 range.  Good deals on HMG's and HMX's as well.  Occassionally, they have fantastic sales on one or two models within each series.

I've gotten a couple rods from them with no issues (free shipping too).  I also price matched one with ***, a BassResource sponsor.

The Powell 683cef MH rod is one of the best all around rods. They have excellent sensitivity and are very light weight.
