Best rod length for topwater rod

Featured Replies

Looking for a new topwater rod - two questions

1)  What is the best length - approx 6' or 6' 6"?

2) Would an extra Fast tip be too stiff?  The reason I am asking is that one model I am interested in is a St. Croix Avid AVC62MXF - that length rod only comes with the extra fast tip.

Thanks!

i personally like a 6 ft because i like a shorter rod because i feel like i have better control and i like to keep my rod tip low to the water when working spooks and pop-r's.. i wouldn't imagine the tip would be to stiff either

I generally prefer 7' rods, but for working jerkbaits and topwater,

6' 6" seems perfect. My rod is a St. Croix Avid AVC66MF with a soft

tip.
