which patriarch?

Featured Replies

Hello all. I am torn on which model patriarch to purchase. I am using it on a 7'6" heavy for flipping and some c-rigs. I am pretty sure I want the high speed but do i need the wide spool or regular??? Thanks.

Personally, I prefer the feel of the wide-spool model when I palm it and like knowing that I've got plenty of line on hand. I doubt I'll ever need it, but I like having it there anyway.

I changed the intended use from flipping to 6'6" MH Avid. Probably mostly light jigs and texas rigs. Does this change the advice leaning towards the wlp???

I just got my wpl in the mail and it's so pretty i don't want to use it :-p I put it on a Carrot stix gold 6'3 med fast action feels great.

I've got one of my WLP's on a 7' med xfast rod I use for small jigs, smaller t rig worms, chompers style spider jigs, etc.  the reel has worked great for me.

I would put it to what size line you use...if you plan on using some larger line, say 15lb+, I would go with the WLP...I personally don't feel that much of a difference between the two...

Also think about your thumbs, long slender thumbs are better suited with the LP....wider thumbs, WLP
