Rod questions

Featured Replies

Hey guys...

Im in the process of updatin my gear and im looking for two new rods. Im not lookin to spend $200 a rod just something durable that feels good that I can count on during tournaments. I really like the airrus co matrix, does anyone have experience with these rods? Also, once I decide on a brand, what would be the best length and action to get? One rod will be paired with an ambassadeur revo sx with a 7.1:1 that will be a lot of crankin crainkbaits and one will be with an ambassadeur revo s with a 6.4:1 ration that will be more of an all purpose rod.

Sorry for all the questions, Im just one of those guys that grew up pond fishin with ugly sticks.  :) This whole tournament scene is rather new to me.

Thanks!

Welcome aboard!

You might want to switch the reels around or better yet, get one with

a lower gear ratio (5:0). For most applications 6.2:1 or higher is fine,

but for crankbaits, especially deep runners, a slower reel is preferred.

I don't know anything about Airrus rods, but generally you can get

away with a "lesser" rod for working moving lures and spend a little

more on a rod for jigs and soft plastics.

Thanks! I appreciate it. If i did get a low gear ration around the 5.0 range, what other applications would be prefered on that reel, other than keepin a crankbait in the strike zone longer?

well i don't kno much about aiirus but i would reccomend getting some carrot stiks... a 6'9 parabolic would be great for cranks and a 6'9 mh would be fine for an all purpose rod.. thats my opinion :)
