Leader for frogs

Featured Replies

In clear water, when frog fishing, I use this set-up:

50lb braided line, with a 2ft. leader of 20lb  florocarbon

joined together with a double uniknot.

hook is tied to the leader with a improved clinch knot.

Has anyone heard of this ?

is a florocarbon leader needed when frog fishing in clear water?

A fluorocarbon leader on braid will put a lot of drag on the lure because the fluorocarbon is dense and will sink. You are negating the floating characteristic of braid. The legs of the frog are probably larger than the diameter of the braid and you don't expect that to scare away a bass, so why should fishing line do it?

Skip the FC leader, and tie direct.  Fish don't seem to care about the braid.

There really is no need for a leader when frog fishing.  Save yourself the trouble and tie direct.
