Best line for a kids rod?

Featured Replies

My son si ready to step up from spincasters to a spinning rod. I have the rod and reel, but I was wondering if I should put 8lb. hybrid, or go with a lighter lb. test braid. We fish for Walleye in Lake Erie quite a bit, but also hit the local lakes around my house. Just wondering.

I don't know about superlines and braids for beginners, one mess up and it can ruin their day.  I would suggest a limper mono/copolymer like Trilene XL, P-Line Cx Premium, or Yozuri Hybrid or ultra soft.

I'd go with 6lb yo-zuri hybrid or maybe 8lb P-line CX premium - both are fairly limp right off the spool and work well... my buddies use both brands on their kids spincast reels and don't have any trouble!

Trilene XL or Stren Original.  Cheap and easy to replace.

Thanks guys, I think I'll spool it with 8lb. hybrid, and the spare with braid.

If you do go with Hybrid, I would use the ultra soft.  Little bit more manageable.  That is what I have on my sons spinning reel and he has had no problems.

Later, :)

Any braid is better than any mono on spinning gear. A lot more tangles are experienced with monos. It's a line memory thing for those inexperienced with braid use.

These are my thoughts too.  That is what I learned on.
