REC recoil guides v. Fuji SiC guides

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Sorry if this is a repeat subject but I didn't come up with any results when I did a search for this subject. Anyway, I've got a choice with a rod that has REC recoil guides or a rod that has Fuji SiC double footed guides. I've always had rods with the Fuji guides but would like to know that the advantages and disadvantages are between the two before I make my decision.

Thanks in advance for the input guys. I'll be anxiously waiting for your replies.

the only complaints i've heard are that they're noisy with braided line and some rare instances of grooving with braided line. i've never noticed the noise and i've checked mine for grooving and see no sign of it (i use braid the majority of the time). i really like the recoils...light, corrosion proof and--most importantly--they flex naturally with the rod and are near indestructible. bend a regular guide too far and the inserts pop out. close your rod locker lid on a regular guide and it's bent to heck. i also like how low recoil guides sit on the blank.

SiC's offer less friction, but REC's are more sensitive. Anytime you can take out a dampening component(s) between the line and the blank you increase sensitivity (I'm referring to guide rings).

Normal guides:

strike vibration(via your line)->guide ring->glue->guide frame->blank

Rec's:

strike vibration (via your line)->REC frame->blank

gotta disagree with the sic having less friction.same lure on identical rods/reels line setups and it falls faster on freespool with rec guides than titanium sic.i have both and like rec guides better.rewc giuids with braid are quiter than sic with identical braid.

Last year I built a drop shot rod using REC recoil guides and went all the way down to single foot fly guides for the 3 guides near the tip.  The rod is ultra sensitive due to using these guides, but casting distance is greatly reduced and they sing when I get a fish.  If you want a rod that is super sensitive then these are your guides, but if you are interested in casting a mile then go with the Fuji SIC guides.
