I just saw basspro has a new combo with a medalist rod/reel for 99.99$ anyone used one or picked one up at the store? Any info would be great

Assuming this is a spinning combo, I do own a Medalist 5000 (saltwater reel and heavy).  The reel has served me well, quite smooth.  I use it in shore for cuda and off shore for kingfish and bonita, they will test your equipment to the max.  Reel gets plenty of saltwater spray and still performs like new, occasional use of corrosion block on the bearings helps as well.

i have a 4000 size medalist.it's a great reel.
