Would this be a good all around combo?

Featured Replies

Ive got a few cheap baitcasters but im just not happy with them and cant spend alot of money on rods and reels for just one technique or one bait. So would a medium fast action 40$ shimano rod from academy and a shimano citica with a 6:4:1 gear ratio and 12lb cxx handle worms, jigs, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits?

I would say that it is a lot better to get a quality rod and a bit cheaper real if you are on a budget. Trust me, you want the best rod you can afford for jigs and worms. Also, i wold suggest a MH/mod fast as a all purpose stick. GOOD LUCK

That set-up will be fine. On average, my reels are 67-75%

of the cost of a combination. High quality reels, especially

baitcasters, makes "fishing" more fun! Next time you have

the money, you may want to upgrade your rod. Sensitivity

comes into play with soft plastics and jigs, but not so much

with "moving" lures.

That combo will be fine. As roadwarrior said, you can always upgrade your rod later. If you get a inferior reel, you'll sacrifice casting distance, and most of all, a smooth drag. In my opinion, a good, smooth drag, is most important of all.
