Baitcasting Rod and Reel Combo Recommendations

Featured Replies

This will be my first time using a baitcaster. I want to get a rod and reel for around or under $200. Keep in mind that its for a newbie. It doesn't necessarily have to be a "combo".

what kind of application are you planning to use it for, lure weight, line size?

Well I am going to be using it for all kinds of applications. Crankbaits, spinner, plastics, maybe some topwater. I really just want a all around set up.

Reels- Shimano Citica, Pfleuger Cetina/Trion, Revo S, Shimano Cardiff 100A, Abu Garcia C3/C4

Rods- I'd go with a 6'6" or 7' Medium maybe Medium Heavy

Falcon original, Shimano Compre, Diawa Tierra, BPS Pro Qualifier and Johnny morris rods are good but don't pay full price for them, there is too much mark up on them. St. Croix Premier and Mojo

I bought a cheap baitcast reel to learn on and it ended up a waste of money. I'd go with the quality reel and a average to good rod to start. You can always upgrade the rod when you get comfortable and want to spend the duckets.

Given your price.

Personally I would go w/ shimano citica ($119)

shimano clarus 7' mh (79.99)

That is if you are paying msrp.
