fresh water and salt water?

Featured Replies

I was wondering if my Shimano Citica E and Daiwa Mike Iaconelli 7'2" rod are ok being used in salt water? They would be used for topwater poppers and zara spook's. I will be fishing for stripers and bluefish.

thanks

I'm a saltwater fisherman and your equipment will do fine.  As mentioned a lite water spray is all that needs to be done.  If an additional product is used the choice would be salt x, it removes salt deposits, but most of that stuff is big hype, you don't really need it.

I have it and hardly use it and my equipment is in great shape with daily use.

After having several reels trashed by salt water I now ONLY use equipment that is expressly sold as salt water capable. I rinse all my stuff when I get back from either trip, fresh or salt.  I do use salt tackle when fishing fresh but never the reverse. The problem is often that a catalog or picture etc does not give enough info (like stainless components etc.) to make the decision. So, if its not in the salt section of Cabelas, BPS, Dick's etc., it doesn't get to go salt water fishing!

A grinding bearing is a terrible waste!
