Anyone know anything about this reel?

Featured Replies

Yesterday I helped a fellow fisherman tow his inop boat from the back of the lake.

He ended up giving me a rod and reel he fished from the bottom of the lake that day.

I wouldnt normally have taken it but I saw the reel and was immediately interested.

Its an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Max Lite.

I dont know how long it was at the bottom of the lake, but I took it all apart and cleaned out gobs of old, stinky grease, reassembled according to some schematics I found online,Cleaned up the exterior and it "seems" to function as it should,no funky noises while reeling Freespool button works, engages smoothly when the crank is turned ect. I havent spooled it with line yet and have yet to cast it so I really dont know how well it function in an actual fishing situation.

Can anyone tell me the specs on this reel(Ratio),perhaps the age and maybe a ball park value on it (value in perfect working order)

Any additional info is appreciated.

Haven't seen one in about 7 years thank goodness....Lousy reel to work on (circa 02)

I think it ran a 6.2:1 GR and a single disk drag system, no Instant AR.

Basically a graphite frame and plastic side plate reel, rubber thumbar..

You can get a sense of the GR by counting the rotations of the full spool to one rotation of a crank paddle..

Worth, have no idea..

Tight Lines!!!

I had one of those but it was black. 5:3 to gear ratio, 2 bearings. I bought it at K-Mart in probably '94 or '95 for $35. It was a cheap reel but it worked great. It finally ended up at Bass Pro's reel trade in.
