prescription sun glasses

Recommended Posts

kb here   got to get me a pair of prescription sun glasses this year   have allways have had cacoons or fit overs  and get tired of the problems with wearing two pair of glasses at a time  i know there are   500 different brands of glasses

cant decide what to buy and color of lens  some of the guys around here have got the vermilion lens color  and seem to like it  kind of like solor bats do the really keep all the sun out like from the sides  of the glasses. looks like a pair will cost about $175.00  in solar bats. any body got the vermillion color lens    kb   they say there made in brazil indiana  unless there are two brazil indiana's  that town is only about 40 miles from  me its just a little town ??

I use a gray lens for bright days with a lot of sun. I use amber lens for overcast days. The mossback and the hiconY lens I have never used from solar bat. The mossback is for site fishing and the yellow HiConY is for low light or tannic water (tea color water).

I just bought a pair of Costa Del Mar's (Killer Waves) today and I will be needing to get prescription lenses. I dont know how the Solar Bats are, but CDM has an array of lenses that you can choose from to get Rx lenses for.

I only mention this because I went through the whole speall today with the sales rep.

I wear regular prescription glasses, but the lenses are treated so that when I get into sunlight the lenses turn dark.  The brighter the sun the darker the lenses get.

kb...altho you don't specify this in your post, I'm guessing you are after polarized prescription sunglasses.  I started looking into this last year, altho I decided to wait a bit.  I wear CDM's at present (Deep Blue model).  Will be interested to see where this goes.  Look forward to seeing the feedback.

Less than $150.00 from Wally-World.

I bought mine in the spring and they have been worth there weight in gold.

Grey lenses have been good for me, so far.

I have an appointment this Saturday at the eye doctor for a new pair of glasses.

Are you guys who are talking about prescription sunglasses talking about polarized lenses or not?

I would like to get a pair of prescription polarized lenses, but not if the price is to steep.  If no one gives a definative answer, I'll find out Saturday and report back.

Yes....prescription polarized is what I was/am after.  I don't want to buy over the net as most of the frames are too narrow for me.  The other negative I was running into was the lens color options were few, at least at the optical locations I tried.  Be interested in what you find out.

Kb- I would like to offer another option. About ten years ago I was facing the same decision as you are now. Wearing glasses was always a problem because of weather, rain especially and even sweat caused problems. I considered everything that has been discussed. My eye doctor suggested that I may want to try contacts. At age 50 I didn't think I could had the patience to even try them. He offered to give me a pair to try for free. I'm 60 now and love my contacts, however I only wear them when fishing or hunting. I can purchase any frames or lense color I want. I have never been sorry for that decision. Talk it over with your doctor..............Al

kb again     ia'm going to throw a wrench in this discussion.   i buy my glasses from wally world   have for the past 10 years   when i got my last pair  they told me of a new plastic  out which is polycarbonate  that it is more scratch proof and stronger.  and it is   the girl also told me some people cannot where poloycarbonate lenes   it make them sick and dizzy   guess what, they made me a pair of reg single vision glasses in polycarbonate  and they made me sick and dizzy. took them back and they gave me another pair of lenes  at no cost.  they said some people can wear them and some cant   might be something to ask  unless you allready have poloycarbonate   lens and can wear them.  kb

Sorry kb, I totally forgot about this thread.  That happens ALOT.

I went last Saturday and ordered me a pair of 100%UV protection Transitions glasses.  They cost about $250.00.

Is "UV protection" and "polarized" the same?

I'm getting the grey lens.  I'm lucky that my prescription has not changed since my last pair of glasses, so if I only want to use them for fishing, I can.

The ones I got are just regular frames with the Transition lenses.  Indoors they are like regular glasses, but when you go out into the sunlight, they "transition" into sunglasses.    As far as a brand, they would be called "transitions".

They are not fancy like the CDM's, but they are going to serve the purpose well.
