Tying on leaders

Featured Replies

I recently decided to upgrade my my line type by going from 12# mono to 20# braid with a 12# flouro leader.  So far I'm loving it.  I never realized how big a difference a line with no stretch would make on my sensitivity.

So I was taught how to tie leaders a while back by a fishing buddy of my fathers, but the knot he showed me is making a bit more of a bump in my line than I would like.  Now I may have missed an article on this site but I didn't see anything about tying leaders, and I am hoping you guys can point me in the direction of something to help me tie better leaders.  Thanks.

Back-to-back Uni knots. 8 turns on the braid, 6 on the fluoro. Haven't had a problem yet.  ;)

Right you are, spool up with braid and suddenly a $100 rod becomes a $250 rod 8-)

I no longer bother with a leader, but tie everything direct to the braid.

Nevertheless, some anglers like a mono leader for shock absorption.

When I did bother with a leader, I tied a 6-twist uni-knot in the mono

to a 6-twist uni-knot in the braid. Needless to say, I never experienced any knot issues.
