Another braid line question

Featured Replies

I just started using braid line as well.  I'm spooled up some green Stren Super Braid and I noticed the color is bleeding off the line.  My entire rod would be coated with green by the end of the day.  I'm still trying to wash the green off my thumb!  That's another way to get a green thumb I guess. ;D

Is this normal?  Or is this why I bought the line off the clearance rack?

I use PP green and it only fades, never seen it come off on anything.

Hey snap, first off, braided Spectra does not hold colors and dyes well. I've never used the brand of line your using now, but I will say, the color shouldn't bleed all over the place, but rather, it normally just kind of wears off during normal fishing.

BTW, I often use "white" braided line, as this allows me to see my end of it better (for line control) and since I always use a fluorocarbon, or regular mono leader anyway, visibility at the fishes end is never a concern.

If you do like to tie your braid directly to your hook / lure, and if your braid starts to get really white and washed out, you can take brown, green, or black indelible felt tip pens, cut a slit in the felt tip with a razor blade, and drag the last several feet of your braided line through it, to recolor it.

Peace,

Fish

Great tip Fish...need to try that.

You must have gotten a bad batch as it was being discontinued. I've been using the Stren Super Braid since it was first introduced and all I've used held it's color longer than any other colored superline I have used. I have some 5 year old gold color on a couple of highly used rigs that is still gold color but somewhat dirty. I've never had any of the green fade to white either.

I have experimented with coloring the gold line with soft bait dye in the red color and the red will wash off/fade and it returns to the gold color.

Hey Wayne, just out of curiosity, do you know if Stren Super Braid is made with braided Spectra ? .....or, might it be made with Dyneema, or some other super fiber ? I'm thinking that if it holds dye better than braided Spectra lines, it probably isn't braided Spectra.

Not necessarily a bad thing. I used Cabelas Ripcord (braided Dyneema) a little back in the day, and it was pretty decent. Not as good as my TUF-Line XP of course ;-) ....and a lot more expensive, but decent.

Peace,

Fish

Yeah, I beleive it is a Spectra. I used it when it first came out and that was one of the things I didn't like about it, my foregrip and hands were green at the end of the day. It also snapped really easily. I tossed the rest of the spool in the garbage when I got home.

This is exactly what happened to me.  I lost a lure on the cast thinking that it was the clinch knot coming undone.  I wrote an email complaint to Stren.  That thing that ticks me off the most is the box advertizes low to no fade and excellent knot strength.  I normally use Berkley line, but saw the Stren on sale/clearance for half price.  Clearance or no clearance, the product should perform as advertized, or at least close to it.  Let's see what their customer service does.

Update:  I got a replacement (Sonic) from PureFishing but haven't spooled it yet.  Instead I bought some Spiderwire in Lo-vis Green from Walmart and it's doing the same thing!  The color is coming off like the Stren stuff, and getting all over the place.  What gives?!?!?

just use suffix braid and be happy.

http://www.sufix.com/downloads/coupons/sufix_2009_coupon.pdf

theres some coupons for ya.

10 bucks off the 300yd spool and

6 bucks off the 150yd spool.

i love the stuff and have NEVER had any bleeding issues, only the normal fade over time.

I think I will.  I just realized all my braid problems have a common denominator - Pure Fishing, Inc.!!!

Thanks for the coups!
