Braid mysteriously broke during cast

Featured Replies

I'm using 30lb spiderwire code red braid with a flouro leader and it broke half way through a cast today, while I was tossing a spinnerbait. Anyone know why this would happen?

by the way it did not break near the leaderknot. It was maybe 10 ft past that.

1. Check your guides

2. Were you fishing around rocks?

3. Throw away the Spiderwire  ;D

1. The first thing I did was check the guides, they are fine

2. No rocks

3. I guess i'll go back to power pro.

Sometimes a bad spot can develop after a backlash with braid. Braid usually has that hard stop on a backlash and that can do a number on the line where it kinked and stopped.

I think Simp is on to the cause.

Yup, I use the chit for a filler on the spools.

Or for Darn tooth floss !

Throw the spiderwire away gets my vote. Try it on a spinning reel, then see if you have the patience to try it on a bait caster.

Well, I once had a terrible cast,(just once ) that involved a backlash, a tree, shoreline weeds, and alot of swearing.  Needless to say it sucked.  Well, about ten yards up from the lure, I somehow managed to put a knot in the line.  Since I was low on line to begin with, I put on a lure that I wasnt real worried about losing, and wouldnt you know, about an hour later it broke at the knot.  So I guess what im saying is did you by any chance have a knot in the line you didnt know about?  Oh yeah, it was 30# suffix performance braid.
