Well I actually have two issues. I'm not really good with the correct terms for the actual reel parts but please try to understand what I'm trying to say.. Well one of my baitcasting reels just started making a clicking noise every time I start reeling in. Not really sure what would make it do this. There is the metal bar underneath the guide that spins when you turn the reel and I think that is where it is coming from. What could this be? The other baitcasting reel has an issue with the guide. It gets stuck all the way to the right when I'm reeling in. I've pushed it to get it unstuck and then when I start reeling in again it gets stuck again. What can I do to fix these baitcasters other than taking them to a reel mech?

Do a google for your reel, find a repair manual and take it apart. Once you have all those little screws, springs, gears and bearings out, clean it and put it back together. Most likely what will happen is you will take it apart loose a part, get confused or both, and end up sending it to a reel mech, and pay double. ReelMech, is one of our resident reelsmiths and offers a bassresource member discount. If you are not mechanically inclined you are better off sending it off to get it fixed.

What model reel is it?  BTW it sounds like you are describing the worm gear, you can clean it out the best you can, put a little lube on it and it should free it up so it will quit sticking.  

Line guide getting stucked, probable causes:

Wear in the pawl

Wear in the worm gear

Idle gear wear

Cracked line guide

Dirt or detritus build-up in the worm gear

Clicking sound when turning the handle, probable causes:

Antireverse bearing in bad shape

Idle gear wear

I 'd take it to a reel mech, not only they may need new parts but they need a good inspection done by someone who knows where and and what to look for.

Thanks for the help guys. I will probably end up taking them to a reel mech sometime over the winter. It just ticks me off because I just bought the one that makes the clicking sound a couple of months ago and it already messed up. Is it usually expensive to fix them?

Nope it is usually in the case of the ticking an adjustment....

In the case of the line carriage it is usually a small part that has worn out..

I could better tell you if you could disclose the models of the reels......... :-?

The one that the guide gets stuck on is the Browning Stalker combo from BPS

Because both of those reels are only sold through BPS..

I would suggest that you contact OutDoor World Rod & Reel Repair...

They are basically the BPS service center and service both of those reels...

If the reel is only a couple of months old just take it back to BPS.  If it has an issue you should be able to replace it for free.
