Oh happy clearance!

Featured Replies

For me, a clearance on fishing tackle is a two-edged sword. On one hand, it means I'll get a good deal. On the other hand, I'll spend a lot of money. Well today at Academy I found a whopper of a deal. I got a Quantum Accurist PT saltwater reel for 65$ (regular 150). It's really a step up from my first combo. I've got it spooled with 12lb berkley fluro, on an old Fenwick Eagle GT 6'6" MH/F. I think this will make a good worm/spinnerbait combo. I know some people have... doubts... as to Quantum's quality, but for the price I couldn't pass it up. I really like the brake set-up. I just got back from buying it, so it will be tomorrow for I can try it out. Now I just need a nice warm day to go fishing!  ;D

Great find, should catch you a lot of fish.

I love fishing clearance when it's fresh, you can get good deals like that.  I usually stumble onto it when there's nothing left except stuff nobody wanted.

I think Quantum gets an unfair bad quality rap.  I have a 20 yr old snap shot spinning reel that I've never serviced works fine.  I grew up with a Dad who cleaned his reels by dunking them in the river.  I didn't know about bearings or reel oil until my mid 30's.  I also have a Quantum Accurist PT II that I like very much, I have had it for three years now, no problems.

I know exactly how you feel  :-[
