TransOptic

Featured Replies

I got a free spool of Trilene TransOptic with a magazine. I have yet to try it and was wondering if anyone has any experience with this line.

Just saw it.  Looks its the update to Transition.  There's three reviews on the Cabela's site.  Nothing there that would make want to switch from what I currently use.

I have tried it, nothing special other then line watching. The Gold stands out in any light or water condition. I did notice that the abrasion resistance was below par. If fishing soft plastics where line visibility is important and re-tying is not an issue then not a bad line for the price. I fished in 38 degree air temps and 58 degree water temps and the line stayed fairly pliable.

Nice review, Uncle Leo.  I may give this a try as mainline for float fishing for winter steelhead.  Hi vis line really helps when there other anglers fishing the same hole and drift.  The business end is usually fluoro or copoly, so abrasion isn't a huge issue.

im thinking about buying this line too, seems interesting.

I decided to try it today. I spooled it up on a citica E and was throwing Texas rigged plastics. When first spooled up it took on a pale yellow color but once in the sunlight it turned a bright gold. I thought this was pretty cool. Under water it just looked like clear mono. I found this line easy to cast, and line memory wasn't a factor. I only fished it for about 30-40 mins. but it did seem to perform well. Next time maybe I'll fish it around more rocks to see how abrasion resistant it is.

I tried it last week and was really disappointed. I could only see the line if it was a bright, sunny day. If there was any overcast or low light situation it was less visible than regular Trilene.

I noticed the same problem. On a sunny day like when I first tried it the line is highly visible. In low light or overcast conditions it isn't very effective.
