Carolina Rig Reel

Featured Replies

What reel are you using on your c-rig. The guy who introduced me to the c-rig many years ago told me that I needed a reel with a low gear ratio. I use the c-rig a lot and I'm very comfortable with my gear, so I have no intention of changing. But lately I've read several articles suggesting high speed reels for c-rig. Just curious about what everyone else is using.

It doesn't really matter, just use a reel that you like.  I would personally use a faster reel with a higher IPT

I suggest using a high gear ratio because if you get bit while you holding your rod at the 12 O'clock position you can reel up the slack very quickly to get a better hookset and catch more fish.

My C-rig reel is a Quantum Burst in 7.0:1 gear ratio.

I use a BPS Extreme high speed, 30" IPT-7.1:1 is the ratio I think. I like a fast reel for this application. When you have a lot of line out after a long cast the faster reel helps to get a good hook-set. Just my .02

I would go with a high gear ratio. This results in picking up the slack from the rod tip to the sinker and then from the sinker to the bait. I use my flipping stick so I get a long rod sweep on the hook set.
