Line for Core 100MGFV

Featured Replies

I just got a new core a couple of days ago that I'm going to pair with a 7"2' Cumara rod for mainly jig fishing and need some line help.  I'll be fishing lakes and the Tennessee river where the water visibility is pretty murky.  I've never fished braid but read where a lot of people on here use it for flippin and pitchin jigs.  What's a good flouro or braid for this reel?  I plan on fishing some heavy cover but not a lot or all the time.  Does braid cast and come off the spool much different than flouro?

Core 100/ Cumara 6' 8" M/H-F for pitching jigs and plastics w/30# Power pro...serves me well!

I've used 30 and 50# braid as well as 12 and 15# Flouro.  The 15 and 50# was too strong for me.  The braid does come off the spool faster so it takes a little practice to get used to it.  The water around Nashville is fairly clear for I stayed with the Flouro... You can always tie a flouro leader but I found it to a P.I.T.A. ::)

I would say 30-50lb braid or 15-20lb fluoro.  I run 17lb fluoro for this application, but could stand to go up to 20lb.  I fish murky water down here too, but I still think Flouro gets me more bites.  Whether it really does or not I am not sure, but I am more confident with it.

I guess I'll just stick to flouro then since that's what I'm use to. Thank you for all the helpful information.
