plueger patriarch wide model

Featured Replies

Looking at buying one of these reels from a guy on here and it looks nice but i originally did not intend on buying the wide version. The website says its used for medium freshwater to light saltwater, what does this mean. And it says its only .4 oz heavier. Is it any bigger? I will really only be using for freshwater, and maybe, maybe, maybe use for inshore but highly doubt it.Buy or no buy to get the original model.

I wouldn't worry about what it says on the site.  The widespool is wider than the narrow but the profile is the same.  I have smaller hands so the narrow spool suits me but if you have larger hands it should be very comfortable.  Either way, the widespool has very little effect on anything.  Get it, don't think you'll regret it.

the patriarch is awesome!!  I prefer the wide spool over the narrow spool.  I haven't used the patriach in narrow spool, but I have used the summit in narrow spool so I assum its the same.  If I were you I would go to basspro or something and hold the models in your hand and see which you like the best.  With my fat fingers I like the wide spool.

I initially bought the wide spool, handled it and decided to sell it off for the standard one.  Once I had the standard spool I realized that the difference between the two was insignificant to me; both felt comfortable in my hand.  The only difference to me would have been the extra line capacity which I don't need.  I never did look at the weight difference.

If it's a good deal, take it. Don't let "wide" worry you too much. It fits wonderfully in my hand and I wouldn't say mine are big at all.

But if you're not interested anymore...who's selling this reel? ;)
