X-factor rods at Gander Mtn

Recommended Posts

I stopped at my local Gander Mtn. today and saw they have a new line of their branded rods. Called the x-factor.

Very nice looking rod, nice details, split foam grips.  Seemed like very light and well balanced rods.  price was 149.95 also has a lifetime warranty.  Does anybody know anything about these rods?  A Google of x-factor rods also turns up Okuma.

I saw them too.  They seemed pricey when held up next to a Vendetta.

What's a Vendetta? I thought they were a little pricey as well, but might be worth it. I don't currently own any rods quite that expensive. A couple of St Croixs & Fenwicks are my best rods. I'm not strictly equating price with quality and I know there are rods that are much more expensive than $149. I'm just wondering if they are really worth that or if its an understated bargain at that price. I have a Gander Mtn. Tournament Pike rod that was supposed to sell for $99. I waited for a good sale and got it a lot cheaper. Beautiful rod! Very light and responsive. Some GM stuff seems very good.

I was at gander mountain today and saw these rods also. They looked corny so I passed right by them. I did handle a few vendettas tho for my first time and they were actually pretty nice for the price.

Have you noticed how much smaller the rod selection is now at GM? The F'burg one- if thats the one you went to.

I also passed right by them, I'm going to be buying some rods here pretty soon, and looked at these. I dont know much about gear, but they just didnt feel right.

Ya that store is garbage imo. They dont sell any really good rods. Lots of 100-150 dollar rods but nothing like a cumara, loomis, etc.. What a shame. They also have no japanese tackle at all. They did have revo stx's for 129 bux tho on sale. For 150 bux I would consider something proven instead of these x factor rods.

The GM closest to me only really stocks Walleye gear. They still carry good reels, but don't carry very many rods. The hunting, and gun depts. are still great, but whoever makes the fishing decisions needs to be fired

im pretty sure that each gander mtn is indepently stocked by what the managers feel sells at that store..........  our store is stocked well all the time!

But Gander Mtn stocks seasonally, mine wont put out their full arsensl of rods until they feel they cant sell anymore ice fishing gear...... its silly, but its biz. i dont know how yours is run..... but mine is better than going to Walmart!  If you ask me, youre overshooting your expectations for what your buying..... its supposed to be cheaper than other brands, which is the whole reason gndr mtn offers them..... but i think theyre over priced. theyre probably just trying to compensate for the economy.

5 of my 7 rods i own are all Gndr Mtn Im7 Classics. ones an Im8. but theyre the simple green ones. they work really well, and i got each of them on sale for under $40 a piece.

my bottom line point of view. if your complaining about how expensive they are, then maybe ur looking in the wrong place. you wouldnt go to walmart and get mad because the TV's were over priced for a low quality TV. u'd leave and go to an electronics store! (Ok, maybe walmarts a bad expample. lol)

I just think people hold this high expectation of "off brands"   and sadly, thats why theyre off brands.    lol :)

Well, so far everyone who has posted has not used an x-factor rod.  I'm gathering that the consensus of opinion is that they appear to be overpriced or one is better off staying with a known brand/quality for about the same, or less, money.  Still, no one has actually fished with one, which of course, is the only way to find out how they actually perform.

Eventually, some reviews will come out.

I have one. It's a great rod and just what I was looking for. The rod has a short handle Fuji guides and reel seat. Its light has a foam split grip handle and is not tip heavy.  I bought the 6'6" medium action spinning rod. The rod is matched up with a stradic ci4 1000. later
