Shimano Cumulus Rods?

Featured Replies

Just saw them on TW I had no idea shimano had a new rod coming out.  Does anyone have a review on them?

The just came out so my guess would be no, probably not too many reviews.

I'd like to feel one just to see if the weight and sensitivity would outweigh its ugliness.

Maybe I looked at the wrong rod but what is ugly about that besides the price

Yeah I figured there wouldnt be any reviews but had to ask anyway.  Too bad we don't have the shimano guy anymore  :-[

I shouldn't say ugly, I should say plain. From the foregrip to the back of the handle just looks plain to me. I think the teardrop butt even makes it look cheap.

I agree. Very boring looking rod, and the butt cap just kills it. Not saying I wouldn't mind having one though, I'm sure they're incredible rods! Just not my cup of tea.

Not bad other than the foregrip and the actions.

The only thing I dont like about the Cumulus rods are the actions and powers they are offered in.  I was really hoping Shimano would include a some heavier application rods in the Cumulus lineup, i.e. flippin, frogs, swimjigs and such.  Having said that, I had the opportunity this past weekend at the Classic Expo in Birmingham to pick up a Cumulus Stradic CI4 combo along with other bare Cumulus rods.  I was blown away.  I loved the aesthetics of the rod personally, but the feel was incredible.  Wait and see one in person before you knock em too bad.

Just was at the tackle shop earlier playing with the 6'8" mh. I put a core 50 on it and was blown away with the total weight. The rod is pretty plain but I think it's because they tried to save weight. But the feel is way better than the look IMO.

were they selling for full retail price at the classic ? And most importantly to me, are they made in china ? If shimano is selling a 350-400 dollar rod that isnt made in Japan or the USA then they are makin a killin and offering subpar rods in that price range. I will stick with loomis until I know more about these rods.
