Any lower priced reels compare to Revo

Recommended Posts

Was wondering if there are any lower priced reels that compare favorably to Revos as far as performance and durability and ease of use.  They could be from any companies, and older models too, or used.  Just looking for something that is a good value and very dependable, and plus I like the REVO's, but dont want to spend that $$ right now.  Any help would be apprecaited

Check out the Revo S, Orra, or Shimano citica for something in the $100 area.  If that is too much, check out BPS for their Extreme series for 20-30 bucks less, and for even less, several have had luck with the Ambassadeur Silver Max; that can be had for around $50.  You get what you pay for, but in there respective price ranges, these reels have steadily received positive reviews.

I have been using an Abu Garcia Black Max now for over a year.  I think it is a great reel for $50.  I have had no problems with and it casts a country mile, I use mine on my crankin rod.  Also, recently I have used the Daiwa Excelor, it is around $80 and is also a great reel, however I haven't had it long enough to vouch for its durability.  I will say that neither are a Revo, thats for sure, but both are good reels in my opinion.

There are a bunch of reels out there in the $80-$120 range.  I'll be needing another reel before summer is over and I'm seriously considering the BPS ProQualifier at $100.  It got the Field and Stream Best Buy Award last year.  There's the Citica, Abu Orra, Quantum KVD Signature to name three more.  Daiwa and Pflueger also have models in that range.

Search this forum for reviews and comments on the BPS ProQualifier. Good reel, good rep, and has dual-braking, a great feature to minimize backlashes...  $79 on sale right now at BPS, $99 regular price and it will probably go on sale several more times during the year.

I got my hands on one of those Orra SX reels that Brian mentioned and it was a nice reel for $100 bucks. I was impressed with it. In fact, I'm going to buy one for my son.

I concur.  But the one on sale is the PQ tournament, which is a lightweight version of the silver PQ.  Very similar to the Carbonlite, which are all similar to Revos.
