1/8oz jigheads - sjr720s?

Featured Replies

id like a rod to toss around 1/16 oz and 1/8 oz jigheads with small plastic trailers mainly for 1-3lb stream smallmouth. do you think the sjr720s imx would be a good choice?

is that what you use yours for? is there another rod you'd recommend?

i actually don't have that rod , i was just going by the specs. for it . i use and recommend the shimano clarus 6'6'' lite fast action (CSS66LA). it is rated for 1/16-5/16 oz. lures , absolutely love this rod for finesse plastics and small jigs , i use it for drop shotting , crappie fishing with jigs , big bluegill , trout , and small weightless plastics . a very versatile rod that has an excellent tip for the small baits and good backbone for such a finesse rod . i got it spooled with 6 lb. CXX  ;)

Nope, SJR721S, you 'll love that rod, it 's slightly less powerful than it 's trgger counterpart ( CR721 ) but more powerful than the SJR720S, for 1/16-1/4 oz it 's a funtastic rod to fish with.

I'll throw my stream smallmouth rod's hat in the ring here.... If you are going to spend IMX money anyway, take a long look at the St Croix Legend Tournament "Split Shot". Its a 6'6" ML fast rod. Feels like it was designed for these smallies. It's listed as 1/8th to 3/8 but I throw 1/16th oz stuff on there   (2" grubs, small inlines and tiny topwaters and cranks) all day long and have no problem with distance or feel. That rod is perfect for stream smallies.... Take a look!
