Cordell Jointed Spot

Featured Replies

Found this on ebay & won it. I've never seen a jointed rattle trap style lure before & found it interesting.

I'm guessing it's about 1/2 oz, weight wasn't listed. It looks cool & very different, can't seem to find anymore of them in different colors though.

I hope it works just as good as a regular spot or rattle trap...

Unless that's a costom job, it's not a Cordell. Cordell doesn't make any baits with stick-on eyes and that's not a Cordell color either. Plus the line-tie/split-ring location is farther back on the body of the lure than the Cordell spots.

But it does look like a great bait. I just wonder about the action though.

Cool! I've always had good luck with the Cordell Spots, that one looks like a winner. Keep us posted!

Never thought of the eyes & how the line tie would correlate to the lure.  When I get the lure, hopefully sometime next week, I'll see if it has "Cordell" raised stamp on the side.

I just found it interesting that it's a jointed rattle trap, never seen one of those before.  I don't know if it's an older lure that Cotton Cordell made, how many years ago, I don't know.

I received the jointed spot today.

Well, I looked at the lure, it's hooks & split rings were rusted.  But on the bottom side of the is says "spot".  So Cotton Cordell did make a jointed spot at one time.

It's pretty cool looking lure, a jointed rattle trap style.

I wonder if it's rare & worth anything...

I changed out the rusted hooks & rings w/ new rings & size 4 Gamakatsu trebles.  The rusted hooks looked like it had a size 4 in front & size 6 in back.  But I did keep the original rings & hooks...just in case it is a collectors item.

I'm pretty sure Cordell made a jointed Spot - - I think I remember seeing them in an old 1985 BPS Master Catalog - - they had finishes just like the one you have pictured.

Unless that's a costom job, it's not a Cordell. Cordell doesn't make any baits with stick-on eyes and that's not a Cordell color either. Plus the line-tie/split-ring location is farther back on the body of the lure than the Cordell spots.

My Dad has a couple of old "Spots" that have the same gold stick on eyes and the same texture on the body.  These were before the "Super Spots"

The problem with baits is that they all work,

at one time or another.

The really good ones, senko's rattltraps etc.  work more often, but on any given day, the lure that you never caught a fish on could win you a tournament.

I had some jointed baits just like that one, don't remember what they were.  I don't know if I lost them in the water or they are in a forgotten box somewhere... They were good, but I don't remember them being better or worse than the regular Spot.

It's not that this lue is any better than a regular spot, it's just different.  I've not seen a jointed rattle trap style lure before.

The Lucky Craft is similar but I have a Lucky Craft Pointer that's jointed.  I'll tell you that that lure does not have as much action as I would have thought.  I thought that it would move side to side, but it doesn't.  I would think the Live LVR would be the same...not much action from the tail end.

Also, I looked at the jointed Cordell more closely.  Bottom one side it says Cordell & the other side says Spot.  So I know that it's a Cordell spot, just one that is very unique to me.

Yep, Cordell made jointed Spots a long time ago, well a long time ago to some.  That color scheme is typical of older Pradco brands.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who collect these.  Might be worth some money some day.

Hopefully a stump does not take it from you.

Brad

I know for sure that cordell made the stick on eyes like this one.  My favorite trap bait is the suspending spot in blue chrome with orange belly, and my only dislike was that the eyes would fall off after a while.
