Crankbait rod 1/4 oz baits??

Featured Replies

Looking for a good crankbait rod for 1/4 oz. crankbaits in tight cover; such as creeks, canals, etc.  Most of the cranks will be square bill but also I want to be able to throw 1/4 oz. Red Eye Shads and other lipless baits. Preferably around 6'9 or so I feel is the best.  I like something light and with a split grip.  any suggestions? thanks!

Steez FleXLite Cast Rod 6'5" Med Lt. One of the best light weight cranking rods I have used. I got it for throwing baits of less than 1/4 of an ounce. I teamed it with a Pixy and love this combo.

Powell 684CB is one that comes to mind. Never used it so I can't help ya there.

A 7ft rod would be the St. Croix Legend Tournament Small Cranker.

They've been discountinued, but you might find a good deal on the Kistler Argon AFCB69C.  It loads beautifully with 1/4 oz. baits.  It's a graphite blank, so it is quite light and feels almost like a ML power.  It is extremely sensitive.  Although it doesn't have a fast action, its tip is just stiff enough for me to use it with weightless plastics and finesse situations.  For me, it will be great for smaller, shallow cranks in light cover situations.

Powell actually has a rod specifically designed for square bills. It is called the Powell Max Square Bill Crankbait Casting Rod. It is a 6'9". Check it out on ***.com
