  1. Definitely stock up on some grubs and bring some topwater with you, pop-r's and torpedoes.
  2. He's going to use the square bills a lot this year.
  3. Yes, but was that grass I just ran through or cabbage? Is the bottom I just bounced off of rocks or sand? Is my tandem willow leaf blade turning at eleventeen rpm, and speaking of my willow leaf blade, is that a zebra mussel clinging to my titanium wire? If those things are important to you, then sensitivity is important. Whether or not those things are important to you, I suppose, depends on your situation. I use an All Star Platinum, 6'6" MXF I got for a song a while back when *** was clearing them out. This handles most of my baits from 1/4 to 3/4 without much problem. I hardly ever throw a 1 oz. spinnerbait. Hahaah, I will just leave this one alone.
  4. I would go with the 6'9" abu garcia veritas. It's MH with an extra fast action. In my opinion, you don't need a super sensitive rod for fishing a spinnerbait. If they are going to hit a spinnerbait, then you will know it.....
  5. I have an Ugly Stick Lite 7' MH with an Abu Garcia 5500C3. I love it. I like to use Mono or Fluorocarbon in 12 - 15 lb. Stren original in 15lb test has been pretty good for me. Ugly stick $40 Abu Garcia $89
  6. Never fished it... I did some research on it and found that there was supposed to be a subdivision based around it. Not sure if they allow anyone to fish it.
  7. My current favorite fishing shows are "Lost Lake" and "Classic Patterns". I am also really into "Angling Edge", you can't go wrong with Al Lindner.....
  8. Currently it is my Gander Mountain Titanium Casting rod. 6'6" Medium - Fast Action rod with 2009 Revo Premier. The combo is so light. I use 10lb XPS fluorocarbon. I love throwing flukes or caffeine shads with it.
  9. Not sure about the 300Xe, but if you can put an extra $20 on it, I would go with the Abu Garcia Cardinal 503i. I am really happy with this reel. http://www.***.com/Abu_Garcia_Cardinal_500_ALBi_Spinning_Reels/descpage-AGC5I.html
  10. I love both of them. My SX is a great reel. Don't waste your money on a Core, get the SX and you will love it. The only difference between the SX and STX is the internal gears. I could be wrong though.
  11. Buy some 1/8 ounce jigheads and some Zoom Salty Fat Albert grubs. You can't go wrong. Also, get a couple of Heddon Torpedoes and you will do fine.
  12. what river are you fishing on?
  13. I wack 'em all summer with a 5 inch grub and an 1/8 ounce jighead too.
  14. Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. There is nothing more beautiful than floating down the South Fork of the Shenandoah river in the late spring/early summer. Of course I'm partial, I live about 4 miles from the river.....
  15. I'm with you on this one. I just prefer the reel to have a 7:1 gear ratio. Drag doesn't matter when flipping.
  16. He was using a Duckett rod.....actually he was using the 7'10" one. They are just not available yet. sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/bassmaster/fishingtips/news/story?page=b_FT_MS_Velvick_Swimbait8
  17. Powell actually has a rod specifically designed for square bills. It is called the Powell Max Square Bill Crankbait Casting Rod. It is a 6'9". Check it out on ***.com
  18. Basspro XPS flouro is really good line. It has less stretch than Seaguar Invizx. They are having a sale on it right now. I highly recommend it.
  19. Tackle warehouse has a rod designed for them by Powell. It is a 7ft Heavy action rod that is used for throwing spooks and big traps. Check it out on their website. It's $139. I would post the link but it won't let me post them yet.
  20. anything rigged "wacky"
  21. Abu Garcia Cardinal 502 or 503 ALBi
  22. Has anyone fished the Shenandoah river lately? I'm looking for some tips on fishing it for this fall until it freezes over.
  23. Hey everybody. I'm new to the site. I live in Virginia and pretty much exclusively fish the South Fork and Main stem of the Shenandoah River. Im 30yrs old now, but I have been fishing since I was about 7 or 8. I am addicted to smallmouth fishing. I am still looking for that elusive 5 pounder.
