Can someone help me with my Curado?

Featured Replies

I just spooled my line up with Yo-Zuri Hybrid ultra soft and went to cast and i got backlashes almost every time. I havent adjusted anything on the reel besides the side knob that measures the weight of what your throwing.....can someone help me out so i can get the longest casts with out getting birds nests?

Thanks,

VC

I assume this one has the brake system on the opposite side of the reel handle?

My standard setup for this brake is 2 caps all the way out opposite of each other on the wheel.  I might go up to 3 if my backlashes continue, or down to 1.  I just experiment in my backyard with it.

Are you properly adjusting the knob as well?  Too loose and you will get backlashes.

If you are completely new to baitcasting,

put on all the brakes and tighten the cast

control to where the lure doesn't fall. Practice

with a 1/2 oz weight.

After a few successful casts, back the cast

control off just a bit. When you get comfortable,

shut down two opposing brakes. Fish this

year with 4 on, two off.

Good luck!

Well, the Curado is VERY user friendly,

there shouldn't be any issues if you have

fished any other baitcaster.

Yea i didnt want to mess around with the braking system until i got everyones opinion.

That's silly...Brand new, out of the box it might

not have any brakes on. That would be an issue

for most guys, including me! Believe me, messing

with the brakes is no big deal.

Both my Curados came brakes off.  They are my first real baitcasters I've used and it couldn't have been simpler.  I started with 2 on and experimented till I found where I was comfortable.

RW advice about putting 4 brakes on and backing off until you find the sweet spot is your best bet and spot on!

Thanks RW! I put four of the brakes on and it casts like a dream.

Now this is the reel i was expecting when i made the purchase!

YZ US isn't fluorocarbon.

There you go. Don't be afraid to tweak those brakes. I usually have 2 brakes on, but sometimes as many as all 6 if I'm casting hard into the wind. I think all reels come with the brakes off and drags loosened out of the box.

I was under the impression that it was...Is a considered a combo of flouro and mono hence the hybrid?
