shad raps

Featured Replies

I am looking into buying some shad raps but have a question on the running depths. Rapala's website says 4' - 15' but is this for all the models or do each model have there own depth?

All I use are #5 and #7's with deep bill.

#5 will run about 5ft on 8 lb line. #7 will run about 8ft.

You need to throw them on spinning tackle. they are very light and hard to cast in the wind.

We usually throw them in the Spring in fairly shallow water (2-6 ft).

Great fish catcher.

Running depths vary based on line type, size, and how you hold the rod.  Hold the rod down at the water and it runs deeper as do all cranbaits vs. holding the rod up.  Vary your retrieve depth by varying your rod tip height.

As to how deep it will run, I don't think it will go to 15ft but I've never tried it on really light braided or flouro. line.

I love the new jointed shad raps.  The action is incredible and I've had to take a double-take at my own bait because it looked so real! ;)

I use mine on a baitcaster but it's a finesse baitcaster.  Sometimes I'll use it on spinning gear but I'm a baitcaster fisherman.  My spinning gear get's used 20% of the time.  Thus why I am not consistent enough in catching fish! ;D  I need to learn to slow down.

10# braid and rod tip at the water = hiting weed tops at 9 ft.  not sure how deep it can actualy go, but i would guess 11 ft with the rod tip down.
