multy purpose rod question

Featured Replies

Hey guys i was wondering if yall think it is workable to get a deep cranking, jig, frog, and small swimbait rod out of one rod. If so could you think yall could mention what rods i might want to start looking at?

I use the same rod for all of the above, except deep cranking. Not that it wouldn't work, but mostly because I just don't do much deep cranking.

I use a 7'6" Heavy/Fast Bass Pro Extreme.

Jigs, frogs, and small swimbaits can all be thrown on the same rod, however, I would not throw deep cranks on this rod. I would recommend a a heavy or extra heavy power rod in the 7'3"-7'6" range, something like what was mentioned in the prior post.

Something in the 7'3 - 8ft range is IDEAL for Frogging, Jigging, Swimbaits, and deep cranking. But the action desired in a cranking rod is typically much different then the other techniques listed.

A Dobyns 766 would work well for Swimbaits, Frogs, Jigs, but it would be far too stiff to throw crankbaits. You'd rip the hooks out of their mouth much too easily.

Get a rod for Frogs,Swimbaits and Jigs, and then get a cheaper Cranking Rod. That'd be my advice.
