I feel for you, knock on wood Ive never dumped my yak.  I recently have changed from all Shimano to trying a few other brands.  I think Ive learned that, especially fishing from a yak, I want really tough reels. I fish just as much salt and brackish as I do bass fishing.  Ive been really happy with my new Revo SX but I havent used it on the kayak yet.  On the yak Im happiest with my simple 4600C3.  For spinning Ive found Daiwas Coastal to be really tough. Its a tougher version of the Tierra with a incredible drag.

Revo's (SX or STX), or Pro Qualifiers are very nice reels.

Dude, that sucks about the combo and the roll, and the yak, and the lost treasure. I've been thinking about making some leashes for my rods, your story confirms me doing so.

Since you're down near BPS, check out the extreme. Its a mighty fine reel, and you factor in the $70 (or so) cost, you've got yourself one hell of a value. Fair warning though, that BPS tag on it will make it tought for resale, but if you plan on making it a lifer, you cant go wrong.

how did you flip? rapids on the new river?

i have the scotty power lock rod holders which should save my rod if i capsize, but the only time i lock it in is when im coming up to some sketchy riffles so its not going to work if i flip for a totally unexpected reason.

Was fishing the shad run right below the 14th street bridge and the wind turned me sideways while i was anchored and the current hit the side and rolled me and lost two setups and almost my fly rod.  One of the rigs I lost had a citica reel on it and I loved that thing but was thinking of expanding.

Can't go wrong with a Citica, but here's another thought. I just bought one of Bass Pro's Carbonlite combos and it's sweet. Light as a feather and the reel casts about as good as any reel I've got. I can't speak for durability as I've only used it 4 times but just thought I'd mention it as another option.
