I have two curado e7's no more than 5 months old. One is making a noise and it is coming from the gear box side. I really have never had any luck opening up a reel and getting it all back together correctly. I really don't want to mess this one up but I have to get some lube on the gears(just an observation). The manual does not explain how to disassemble to get to the gears. Any advise would be appreciated.

The Curado's come with another pamphlet that has the schematics. However I believe Shimano's website also has them so you can download them. Sounds to me like you might have a dry bearing making some noise. I broke all my Curado's and Citica's down this year and while I dedicated a evening to it. I made sure to lay everything out in order to help the process. While it took some patients with the right tools it's not that had IMHO. However if you don't feel like doing it, Reelmech should be able to help you out. He has a site and lots of guys have nothing but good things to say about him.

There are a few guys who post here that service reels for a very reasonable fee. If you're not comfortable opening up, diagnosing and repairing your reel, I suggest contact one of these gentlemen and have your reels serviced by a pro. They have the know-how and parts/lubes on hand

I downloaded the exploaded view of the schematics from shimano like Simp suggested. Started in and got it dissasembled. I was thankful that no springs came flying out. Put a drop of oil on each bearing. Sounds smooth, like it just came out of the box.

Glad it helped. Keep a close eye on it and if it starts to have problems again rather soon you might want to break it down again and clean the bearings out. You don't want to have a dirty reel or bearing and have oil provide a quick fix but end up causing a very long term problem.

The reel apparently just needed a little lube on the bearings. No need for the warranty

not everyone likes to send in parts for warranty work, some people like to fix problems themselves, especially if it's an easy fix and you can have it back together in a short time.  That beats mailing it out, waiting around, and then waiting for the mail to come.  Plus, you learn nothing by sending something in to be repaired.
