strike king cranks

Featured Replies

has anyone fished the sexy shad is it any good looks the same as lc chart shad to me or a close copycat pattern

I've fished it some.

My theory on color is that all the variations of shad colors are a way to hook us, the fisherman.

I have had great success on the TN Shad and Gizzard Shad colors Series 5 bait on Guntersville, and I am skeptical as to whether Sexy Shad, Lavender Shad, Ghost, or any other shad pattern variation truly makes a difference.

All that said, the SK baits are very good baits, especially for the $$. I will continue to use them. And, the Sexy Shad pattern is nice looking, so I do have a few of them.

Color, beyond the basic hue is overrated IMHO.

yea i like the strike king series 5 in grizzard shad too   its one of the few crankbaits i use often    i have a few in sexy shad and only ever had one good day on it

I concur greetings.gif

We can only dream that fish were motivated by color, "half" as much as fishermen ;)

I agree completely. I try to buy two basic colors of crankbaits - one for clear water (some white on it) and one for dirtier water (some chartreuse on it). I also want to have each of those basic colors for the same bait (Deep Little N, DD 22, Strike King Series 3, etc).

When I buy a crankbait with that in mind - I'll get several clear water choices laid out and pick the one that "catches" me (always want to throw something you have confidence in). Then I'll do the same with the dirtier water cranks. You can also find some that will crossover - enough color variation to work in a lot of different water clarities.

But back to the Strike King question - I do have that color and haven't fished it yet. It does seem to be a different paint scheme than other Strike Kings.  Norman has a new similar color out - Nutter I think.

In physics there is truth.

Light penetration in water is always problematic in that it varies widely with  the depth at which you are fishing, the choppiness of the surface, the angle of the sun, and the amount of particles in suspension in the water.

Beyond that, a bass' ability to see color is controversial.

I agree with you guys on color, well 95% anyway.  As was stated light penetration can make a difference in presentation.  Some times too bright a color in clear water seems to turn them off, and not enough contrast (I like black) in dark water and they can't find it.

It's like matching the hatch trout fishing.  Most of the time it doesnt make a difference, but when it does, it makes a big difference.

That's just my opinion and I have been full of stuff before.

I use 5 color patterns for crankbaits:

Shad Pattern

Chrome Pattern

Ghost Pattern

Chartreuse Pattern

Craw Pattern

These five have worked well for me in all places I have fished.

You don't even want to get me started on color in trout fishing.  Color definitely makes a difference for trout.  I've seen times when it makes all the difference for bass, also.  But the post was about crankbaits.  When you get a lure deep it is a whole different ball game.

I have used the red eye shads in Sexy Shad and caught fish on them. I have Strike King series 1, 3, 4s, in Sexy Shad as well but have not been able to use them yet. :;)

Also, the pattern is not consistant, I have some with little or no yellow, and I have some with a ton of yellow. Same goes with the blue and gray.

I have caught fish on the sexy when I could not get them to bite any other color.

I fished it on Falcon back in September for the first time. Three over 6 on the Series 5 Sexy Shad day one and have caught lots on the series 3 but not the size as on the 5 and 6. Painted a swim bait in the sexy shad color and third cast the next morning caught a 10.4...I have fished it all over texas and if does catch fish...
