Need to match old reel with new rod... Help!

Featured Replies

I inherited an old spinning reel from my Grandfather and I'd like to find a good rod to match it.  I know it's no top of the line reel or really anything special but it has a lot of sentimental value to me.  It is a D.A.M. Quick 220.  It is a stout 11.9 oz and has a ratio of 3.5:1.

What would YOU use this reel for?

What kind of Rod would you pair it with?

The only problem that makes this a little more difficult is I need to keep it under $50-60.

Thanks for the help!

Display the reel, it's "fishing days" are over.

Why do you say that?  It will not be my primary combo.  It is not in bad shape.  It works and is actually very smooth.  Yes it's a little heavy but for a secondary combo I don't see any problems with using it.

Take the reel to BPS, Cabelas, Dicks, or local tackle shop and pair it up to various rods in your price range. From there, you'll know which rods to eliminate. I may be wrong, but most guys/gals here aren't using 11 oz spinning reels for bass fishing, so you may not get much feedback regarding your question for possible uses or techniques.  Go with what you're comfortable with and what you can afford. Good luck!

Thought about an Ugly Stik Lite?

Could be a decent set-up for treble hook baits.

If you want to be sure it's something you will use out on the water, maybe borrow a rod from a friend (assuming you don't have another spinning rod) and try it out. That would be a good starting point to see if you want to keep it in use.    :-/
