F&S Tec Spec 7' soft plastic castin rod review

Featured Replies

3 days ago i went to Dick's with the intention to buy a berkley Amp rod, while i was there i saw the Field and stream tec spec Rods and checked them out, i was buying the amp rod to hold me over until i could get an abu vendetta and then turn it into a cranking rod (they are said to be fast action but the 7' medium is more like a moderate fast action) the tec spec had the look of the vendetta , for $50 (with my coupon) i decided to get one and bring it home, it was a toss up between the 6'8" medium fast spinnerbait model or the 7' medium extra fast soft plastics model. i bought the 7' .

my previous combo was a revo s mated to an all star select 6'6" MHF rod

first impression was that the rod felt great in my hand, when mated to my revo s, very balanced combo, all the weight feels to rest right below the reel, were as the all star was a lil tip heavy, i really like the exposed blank reel seat.

a lil fishing trip the back pond, really showed the abilty of the rod as i was throwing my t rigged trick worm, it could have been that i just respooled with 20# fireline, but were before i knew i was going from some weed to a patch of rocks , cause i can see them, i was able to feel the weight dragging a long he rocks, caught a few fish, and for the fist time i was able to feel the fish pick up the bait ( the first couple of times i thought it was weeds so put some preassure and feel the fish drop the bait)

the rod feel really good and solid, there is a graphic on exposed part of the grip, that seemed to be flaking off on some of the other rods, it would be cool if it had cork grips i guess i havent gotten used to the feelof the eva foam, but it def feels like good dense foam, also the reel seat is solid.

the only other good rod i had fished was a mojo bass ,one of the seven foot models, i have to say that the tec spec is lighter, and much more balanced in my hand. sensitivity wise ill have to re test the rod with the fireline, as i was using fluoro when i fished the mojo bass.

all in all i have to say that these rods are great for the money, they look cool , they fell solid, they are sensitive and they are light, for $52 if you got the coupon (prob cheaper if you wait for a sale) im very happy with my purchase.

id recomend every one that has been looking at these rod to give them a try, buy it and fish it a couple of times, if you dont like it, you got 30 days to return it.
