  1. Ok thats what what I thought was happening but was not sure. Sorry this was a mistake it is meant to read 3/8 oz, the spinnerbait from strikeking is a 3/8 oz, i will edit the main message Ok, i will know to expect that now, thanks!
  2. Hi, I recently bought, some spinnerbaits and buzzbaits, they claimed to be 1/4 oz, but they looked larger than my 3/8 oz spinnerbait from strike king. So I put them on a scale, and the "1/4 oz" baits actually weighted out between 14.6 and 14.9 grams or a lil over 1/2 oz each. While the 3/8 oz from strike king was a lil closer to its claimed weight at 12.3 grams. Maybe im missing something or maybe there is a reason the "1/4 oz" baits where only a dollar. Now I recived a buzzbait from strike king that claims the weight is "3/8 oz" but placing it on the scale reveals an actual weight of 18.8 grams ,almost double the claimed weight. Im trying to figure out if some of these lures are too large for my rod which is rated for lures in the 1/4 to 3/8 oz range. Thoughts?
  3. my 4 rod collection has been put together, in an attempt to take advantage of the fishing spots that I frequent, while staying within a moderate budget. My main rod is a 7' MXF 6.4:1 baitcaster with #12 Fluorocarbon, This is Used mainly for Texas rigged Worms\Craws, Spinner baits, Fish head spins, Jigs and weightless Senkos, my most used techniques and lures. 6'6" MHF 6.2:1 Baitcaster, with #40 braid, Used mainly for Topwater Frogs, Jitterbugs, Poppers, and with the addition of a fluoro leader, for bigger jigs and plastics in areas with lots of vegetation where braid is a better choice of line. 6'6" MF 5.2:1 Spinning with #8 mono , used for weightless worms, and smaller, lighter lures. 6'6" 2-Piece MF 5.2:1 Spinning with #20 Fireline Crystal "Fused superline" this is my car rod,has worked as a great all around rod, that can stay in the car and being 2 piece it stays out of the way. Im planning on adding a crankbait setup, Something 7' to 7'6" MMF would work for my need, Im pretty sold on the Abu Garcia Orra Winch combo. Though some searching has lead me to the BPS pro Qualifier reels, and im wondering for shallow to mid crankbaits, if the 4.7:1 or the 5.2:1 would be better
  4. oh I see,I looked for freshwater drum and found it.
  5. So whats de difference between that and a redfish? I was told it was the same thing, but that one didn't have the red dot?
  6. Texas rigged Zoom trick worm watermelon red, 3/0 hook, 3/16th weight, this is my confidence bait, also the most productive.
  7. I have had great results with the Gt knot as shown here https://knot2fishing.files.wordpress.com/2014/01/gt-knote.jpg?w=615
  8. wow already read a few people advice against using some of the Lines, I use, maybe thats why I got them on clearance. I have been Using, 12# Vanish for leaders, only had issues with break off from the thinner #12 spiderwire stealth braid diggin into the fluoro and cutting it, only learned this after pulling on the knot and seeing it happen tried different knots and eventually found the Gt knot to work best for me when mating braid to fluoro but the thin braid would wear and fray fast ,I matched diameters between the two with some Berkely Fusion #50 braid havent had any breakage issues and many fish on the same line and leader, this is on a 7'3" MXF with a revo s, that i pretty much use for everything, though moslty soft plastics, weedless frogs, and theoccasionla spinnerbait, even though i have had success, and long life from this combo i feel like the diameters are lil too thick and now that my spools are empty i can try something else, thinking of 10# fluoro with #30 braid might be better and more limp. I like using a palomar knot at the tackle end and the gt knot to connect the braid to the FC
  9. Thanks for the recomendations, will be heading to the store again to check out the lines, Might just pic up a few different of the ones on rollback and try them out, time get some line on these reels and hit the water!
  10. I have the 6935 which i just got 2 days ago, and i think this is the optimal size for me, i feel like the 30 maybe is a lil small in my hands, I got the combo comes with a medium 6.6 which feels pretty good but it wont get fished until Saturday.it feels a lil short but im used to my 7'3" MXF we will see this weekend. I Did have a berkley lightning shock rod with an abu silver max that i used for crankbaits, and I really thought it was good in that situation, Imho It feels a lil noodly for the kinda work I use spinning set ups for. but they are well built, if you like slower action rods. id say is a good choice. and falls right in the budget. I would also recommend the field & Stream tec spec rods got mine from Dick's, my main all arounder is aElite 7'3" MXF e with a Abu revo s, I use the rod for everything as long as i dont have cover, i most use it on my friends boat or while fishing a pond that walking distance from me, it has been durable and quite sensitive, it was a tad heavier than the comparable all star and abu garcia rods. I got mine on clearance when the elites went from gray ( the one i got) toa different color patern, they usually are $60, got mine on clearance for $30. I figured if i didnt like it, it was only $30, this rod is my fave and hold my favorite reel.
  11. No luck there, I live in lutz and lots ofprivaste lakes and lil ponds, this area is more like a a retention pond than actual lakes. Best bet is tofind a park and fish from the shore.
  12. I forgot to mention the reel is a 6935, it claims 155yds at #10 mono. I did read that Yozuri Hybrid is stronger and thicker for the rating , so maybe a 6# line from them might work better, but is it really worth the extra $8 over trilene big game or maybe even the $13 over zebco omniflex?
  13. Hi every one, went to Walmart to pick up some tackle and an Inexpensive rod for my GF,Drove a lil further to a store that has a lil more fishing gear than the one one near me, pretty much was set on getting her a Shakespeare cirrus combo, I've had a few in the past, they work pretty good, are sensitive, and look good, I misplaced my first one, broke the second and third. they are usually around $30, was on rollback at the store for $25. But ended up findind an clearance deal on a Pflueger president and a Trion combos, both were marked down with the crank handles taped to the fore grip, The President has a sticker that reads $19.74 when I first saw it and grabbed it, I i thought, this is a $45 reel! so as long as that works good, its worth it, Screwed the arm in and works great, rod looks good and feels good too. the Trion had a Red Bar code sticker with no price on it, price checked at $19.88, Screwed the arm in, and that one works great too, Im thinking that the arms screwed off and the maybe they thought it was broken or something, or possibly they where returned items, either way I got a sweet deal I think. Any way, Not im thinking that 50# braid and 12#fluoro (left over from my baitcasters) might be a lil much for these rods, I also have a Spool of 12#mono, Im thinking maybe some 10# mono or Fluoro might work better, the rods will be used for shore fishing mostly using soft plastics as well as used to go after panfish when the bass arent biting. So i could get some 8# or 10# fluoro since they had some for spiderwire ez fluoro on rollback, or maybe pick up some 6# yozuri Hybrid, or just get some cheap #8 or 10# mono. thanks for your help guys!
  14. Any recommendation, for fishing the Hillsborough river around Tampa? Watermelon red works great in my friends lake but havent had much luck in the river, thinking of picking up some june bug worms, maybe a couple of Senkos, though i normally have best results with Zoom trick worms
  15. I will have to try the zara spooks, i have had good results with floating tube\worm hybrids in the past I have never tried a shrimp for bass, have used crawdads in the past with no success. I have tried artificial shrimp for inshore, with no results, maybe im doing it wrong, and swim baits i have never tried, unless a fluke counts? i dunno i tried fishing it like a weedless rigged worm. Did not get the results i get with the worm. and i have lost every rattle trap ive bough, in the first 30 to 45 mins of use, lol i too many weeds in my lakes and rivers, but have never tried for inshore, so will have to get a couple. 4 more techniques to practice next outing!
  16. Hi, Everyone, I have been away from some time, my rods have been sitting in a corner collecting dust, but I have Cleaned and lubed the reels, wound them with new line and Im ready to start fishing more often again, My girlfriend has show interest in fishing, Though she seemed to like Inshore fishing from the bank in the canals, and from the pier, Im hoping to introduce her to freshwater fishing and also to use artificial lures rather than bait, a few years ago i gave most of my Tackle to a buddy who fishes a lot, so i Have a mostly empty Box, just a few essentials like some worms, hooks, weights, extra line, and one cheap crank bait that has never caught a fish. Im Hoping to assemble a collection of tackle that could play well in both situations, Im definitely going to add a brass spoon to the box since it is recommended to me for inshore use in the area. What else would you recommend I add to this tackle Box? Most of my fishing is for bass and panfish, But about 35% of my fishing is done in inshore canals, where i would like to aim for Redfish and Mangrove snapper. which i have had moderate susccess catching using bass terminal tackle. thanks in advance for the help.
  17. So are the Orras last generation Revos with different colors?
  18. 4 years ago when I was shopping for reels, no one mentioned Lew's reels, For my budget it was alwasys between some form of the Revo or a BPS reel, or Some Really expencive reel that was 3 time the budget I had. Now that im searching againm Lew's in the Most recommended and the specs and price on most models seem great. I may end up with one of these Lew's reels.
  19. I would like to know if anyone that does ambidextrous casting also plays an instrument? I play various Stringed instruments (right handed) with a pick, and I think that may have influenced my casting style with baitcaster and spinning reels. My right arm is much more rhythmic and my wrist control is better, also is used to pointing down, allowing me to precisely whip a spinning set up (with the reel weight bellow the rod) accurately, Works great for the weightless plastics I throw with my spinner rig. My left harm however is used to moving with my body, its used to pointing up, and the increased finger dexterity and stamina in my left hand makes it easier to feather the spool, and grip/palm/stabilize the reel with the upward weight of the reel, and allows me to use my better timed hand to crank. Maybe it just in my head, but the more I fish and Play the more I see the connection.
  20. I am Right handed, Spinning reels I cast with my right hand and reel with left, Baitcaster i cast left Handed and reel right, just makes more sense to me to keep the rod in the casting hand. plus for some reason i can cast farther and more accurately with fewer blacklashes with my left hand.
  21. I have both and like both, I usually prefer Cork mainly for the natural look, but some reels look sick on a blacked out rod.
  22. Top to Bottom Abu Garcia Silver Max on a 6'6" All Star Select Medium Heavy - Froggin' Abu Garcia Revo S on a 7' Field&Stream Tec Spec Medium Extra Fast - T-Rigs and Spinners Looking for a decent and cheap crankin rod to pair with the Silver Max, but not sure where to start or what to really look for in a crankin rod
  23. Ive had a Revo S on a field&stream tec-spec medium extra fast rod for 3 years and I really like this set up , I mostly just run it with a texas rig since thats the most productive lure in the lake. I love my Revo S! It never failed me and its easy to break down for maintenance. My first baitcaster is an Abu silver max that I still have and its been mated with All Star Select MH Fast rod with 50 pound braid for frogging, I have pulled in a fair share of bass that tried to hide in the weeds and pads with a good chunk of those weeds; gain never any issues. I got the Revo S and the All Star Rod in a combo from Dick's for $99 on sale about a month later I got the Tec-Spec Rod also from Dicks on sale for $50 Ive been out of the Loop for a year and rarely fishing so I havent really looked and current prices. But now that I moved to the River and have a Canoe im getting back into fishing more often. You can get a good deal if you Shop around and sometimes you can just luck out on a deal, I was on a budget and was streching It to upgrade my rod, walked into the store with the intent to buy an Abu Garcia Vendetta, and i got the tec spec simply cause after inspecting both rods, the only advantage I could find in the vendetta was the looks. The Tech spec was lighter and better balanced with the Revo S reel on it and half the price at the time.
  24. 3 days ago i went to Dick's with the intention to buy a berkley Amp rod, while i was there i saw the Field and stream tec spec Rods and checked them out, i was buying the amp rod to hold me over until i could get an abu vendetta and then turn it into a cranking rod (they are said to be fast action but the 7' medium is more like a moderate fast action) the tec spec had the look of the vendetta , for $50 (with my coupon) i decided to get one and bring it home, it was a toss up between the 6'8" medium fast spinnerbait model or the 7' medium extra fast soft plastics model. i bought the 7' . my previous combo was a revo s mated to an all star select 6'6" MHF rod first impression was that the rod felt great in my hand, when mated to my revo s, very balanced combo, all the weight feels to rest right below the reel, were as the all star was a lil tip heavy, i really like the exposed blank reel seat. a lil fishing trip the back pond, really showed the abilty of the rod as i was throwing my t rigged trick worm, it could have been that i just respooled with 20# fireline, but were before i knew i was going from some weed to a patch of rocks , cause i can see them, i was able to feel the weight dragging a long he rocks, caught a few fish, and for the fist time i was able to feel the fish pick up the bait ( the first couple of times i thought it was weeds so put some preassure and feel the fish drop the bait) the rod feel really good and solid, there is a graphic on exposed part of the grip, that seemed to be flaking off on some of the other rods, it would be cool if it had cork grips i guess i havent gotten used to the feelof the eva foam, but it def feels like good dense foam, also the reel seat is solid. the only other good rod i had fished was a mojo bass ,one of the seven foot models, i have to say that the tec spec is lighter, and much more balanced in my hand. sensitivity wise ill have to re test the rod with the fireline, as i was using fluoro when i fished the mojo bass. all in all i have to say that these rods are great for the money, they look cool , they fell solid, they are sensitive and they are light, for $52 if you got the coupon (prob cheaper if you wait for a sale) im very happy with my purchase. id recomend every one that has been looking at these rod to give them a try, buy it and fish it a couple of times, if you dont like it, you got 30 days to return it.
  25. i guess it depends on what you are using it for. IM using sipderwire EZ braid #14, i was using triline 100%fluorocarbon before and really lilke it but lost a few fish that pulled me in the weeds, so i gave braid a try and i realy lke it, i might have to experiment with different brands but i like the feel of braid and that if i get oulled in the weed i can just pull them out weeds and all. that being said i i have a ultralight ugly stick i use for catching bream with 4# mono, and my cranking rod a cheapy walmart excursion with and abu garcia silver max, and that one uses yozuri hybrid
