loose handle./

Featured Replies

just quick lubed my citica , and now when i tighten the drag , the handle becomes loose and looks uneven. when the drag is backed off, the handle is snug again. i had this problem last time i opened it up but i cant remember what the issue was.

Tighten the square nut under the handle a little and tighten your drag star slightly and then install your handle.

how tight does the square nut need to be?

it seems the only way i can get it to stay even and snug is to have some drag pressure when the drag star is all the way backed off. on my other stock citica , there is no drag pressure when its backed off.

:-?

Hand tighten the square nut , dont use a wrench ...then install your drag star  . That should take care of it .

Tighten bnt3473 drag star nut with the drag star until the surface of the drag star is slightly below flush with the ledge on the crank shaft that the handle assy sits on.

Now replace the star drag spring, then the drag star (making sure it is seated properly).

Now while placing pressure on the drag star and making sure the drag star is fully seated over the square nut (drag star nut), and making sure your clicker head and spring are in the drag star.

Now add the bnt3208 star drag click plate and watch that you get it fully seated (it fits the crank shaft only one way).

Now add the crank and tighten. If when your assembling this stack and get a lose handle when you add drag pressure you are not getting the drag click plate seated properly....

Hope this helps some.. :)

thanks. that is the problem, but im still having drag pressure with the star backed off. i did get replacement drag spring washers that had twice the amount of 'cup' the old ones had. could this be where im getting the pressure from? with the old ones , i would have to give the drag star 3 full turns to get any kind of fish-able pressure.  im also thinking the clicker plate may be worn and having a hard time seating.

The drag spring washers could be part of the problem, but I would check the whole crank stack to make sure the main pads, one way inner-tube and keyed D-washer main gear are seated properly on the crank shaft, the drag spring washers are in proper orientation (), and the clicker plate is seated properly before the crank is added.

im also thinking the clicker plate may be worn and having a hard time seating.
All it takes is placing the clicker plate on the shaft wrong once and tightening the handle nut, it will change the shape of the plate hole (eat up the edges), but it can be cleaned up and reseated properly, and then the handle can be placed and tightened.

I see it all the time when anglers take the handles off.

lol. the clicker plate looks like it has seen much better days. im not too sure how much i can clean it up without opening the shaft hole too much. shimano may be receiving another call.  ;D
