Pitching Rod

Featured Replies

Rainy day...thinking about what I mostly fish (techniques and lures). Finally started to write it down and place them into categories, then I started thinking about the combo I should get AFTER I finish the Dobyns Savvy 735c/Citica 200e combo ;D

Here's what I came up with.

Dobyns Savvy 735c/Citica 200e/50# PP- Big bottom-contact lures

RT Thumper Worms

Mop Jig/Space Monkeys

Plastics in tight cover

Any other jigs

Vendetta 7'3 HXF/Advantage HSTA/50# PP- Moving lures

Spro Frogs

Mattlures Baby Bass

Soft hollow body swimbaits

After looking at this, I realized I could probably use a combo for pitching plastics (Baby Brush Hogs) around the edges of weeds and wood cover. The price range would be around $100-$150. Most likely matched with a Citica 200e and 12# Yo-Zuri Hybrid.

Any suggestions? I was thinking a Mossyback Jig & Worm BCR854, if I could find one for cheap.

I spent last friday on the Potomac forggin, and the 735 C Dobyns is also a very good Froggin rod.

I'd swap those around, personally.  As topwater.va mentioned, the Dobyns is a fantastic froggin' rod.

I own the same Vendetta (7'3" HXF) and its my pitchin' / flippin' rod and does a great job of it, IMO.  (Note: I'd go with something longer for flipping specifically, but I can't use longer than 7'3" due to my rod travel case and my car as well.)

I own the Mossyback 854 and that is my dedicated pitching rod.  I have it paired with braid though.  I use the 853 with 12# fluoro for around the weed edges.  Both the 853 and 854 are  great rods.

What about a 705c?

BTW, I settled on the 735c I asked you about earlier.

:)

705 will be pretty close to the rod you have... Sounds like you want something for a little lighter plastics and such.. I'm a firm believer in longer rods as well, and you already have 1 7'3 rod! They help.

704 or 734c it is. That will work well for spinnerbaits too I guess?
