quick question on line

Featured Replies

I'm looking to order some new line today for my spinning reel, and I was just wondering if I could get a couple quick opinions. I mainly fish bass, sometimes in some medium-thick milfoil, and also sometimes fish trout and catfish. I'm about to move states into northern Virginia from CT, so I really am not sure what type of water I'll be fishing often and if it's stained or clear. I also fish a wide variety of baits, ranging from soft plastics, to topwaters, to spinners and somtimes jigs

I've been told Yo-Zuri Hybrid is great line, but should I go with the original or ultra soft? Also, what test should I get and what color? I read a post on here showing the breaking strengths of Yo-Zuri line but can't find it now, ,but I remember it is much higher than the test. I tried doing some searching but can't find anything solid, so I'd greatly appreciate any help from yall. Thanks a lot

For a spinning reel , you should use the ultra soft , 6 lb line has a breaking strength of almost 11 lbs. (Green.)

For fishing vegetation , you maybe should use braid. JMHO

What part of northern Va., D.C. area?

I use Gamakatsu G-line and Excalibur silver thread and Berkley mono 10-12# (clear blue) Mostly around here.

You never know whats going to take your bait and start ripping with it in these waters. LOL

Both #6 original Hybrid and Hybrid Ultra Soft

are very manageable on spinning tackle. In

stained water, line visibility is not much of

an issue. Go with green Ultra Soft or purple

smoke original Hybrid. In gin clear water,

green original is virtually invisible.

#6 has a diameter of .10", the breaking

strength is 11.9 lbs.

8-)

Is there a big difference between 6# and 8#? Maybe it's just in my head but I feel like the higher strength 8# would be better in case I ever catch a bigger fish? but maybe I'm wrong?

Also, do you recomment a site to buy yo-zuri off of? Dick's doesn't carry it :)

Cabela's carries Yo Zuri Ultra soft

i fish spinning gear... the 6lb works great and with a break point of almost 12lb if your drag is set correctly.  i'm thinkin' you could handle most anything.

not sure how manageable the 8lb is?
