Whats the added bonus to a bent handle? like what makes it a better option than a straight handle? Does it give you added leverage when cranking? or is it just for making a lower profile? or even for astetics?

I'm certainly no expert but from my experiences, its probably an aesthetic thing.  I am sure someone else will say differently. 

Its an aesthetic thing, but also its a personal preference thing. I like to wind it closer to the reel, and maybe it has something to structurally, but i doubt it.

It 's ergonomically functional, a bent handle ( and taken to the extreme a, slant bridge handle ) serves the purpose of having the entire handle lenth supported on your forearm vs having only the butt end cap, provides more comfort and a larger contact surface.

Are you talking rod handles or reel handles?

I have a mix of reels with/without the swept handles. I don't think it makes much, if any difference. Just my $.02
