undecided help please!!

Featured Replies

What's up guys. Got a question for ya. I am trying to make a crank bait setup and i have a crank bait rod. My question comes with the reel. I would like to have a slower retrieve reel maybe a 5:4 to 1 ratio or something. I met a gentleman the other day that had a pinnacle reel ( i think it was call a maxium?) that seemed to be very well constructed(all metal 8 bearings) and it was a 4:7 to 1 ratio. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this reel or what your thoughts were on the ratio,i fi you think it may be to slow?? Also i must mention that he said the reel was no longer made and wanted $90for the reel, Good price or no?? Thanks for all your help... :(

For deep cranks it would be OK. Just remember discontinued means they will be hard to find parts for.

I think the gear ratio should be fine but it will reel in SUPER slow if you are ust to a 6.X:1 but if it is smooth and nothing is wrong with is than $90 is pretty good. But like Bass-Brat said it will be hard to find parts for.

I'd rather get a new PQ, Carbonlite or Citica for only a few dollars more. PQ is the only one I believe that has a low gear ratio though. And really for ten dollars more, I'd buy a new PQ  8-)

Unless you're throwing deep cranks I'd get something a little faster like a 6:1 with HEG/oversized gears which will give you more cranking power but will also allow you to speed up when you're using shallow or lipless cranks.
