can hard baits freeze

Featured Replies

can hard baits freeze after being left out in the cold, and get damaged, and can softbaits ruin after being in the cold

i know soft baits get ruinedm somewhat, hardbaits im not sure about, but why take the chance, just bring em inside and dont worry about it

Softbaits can freeze and it will ruin them most likly. However hardbaits are tend to be made out of either wood or plastic. Which can not really freeze it just gets cold.

Depends on what the fish attractant is made out of. Now I am not too knowledgeable on fish attractants because I never apply them but from what I think I know these attractants are made up of mostly fish oils and salt. So they probably can not freeze. I may be wrong though.

Anything can freeze when the temperature gets below 32* unless it has alcohol in it or some other properties that will not freeze.

I do not believe anyone has ever asked this question before and to tell you the truth, I have no idea.

But I agree in a philosophical manner that yes, your plastics can freeze and your hard baits will get really cold.

I have no idea what will happen to your plastics but I would think your hardbaits would be OK.

And do you have a place in your house that you can store the items to avoid having them freeze or overheat in the summer?

I wouldnt leave hard baits out either especially wood.  Wood will swell or contract with temp changes.  Thus it will crack your finish eventually.  I keep all of my tackle inside.

Ok,  got very recent experience with this.  I would say no.

I recently found a milk crate tucked away in my shed thats been there for the last 4 years since i bought my house.....In it were a pile of baggies of soft plastics and some cranks....All the soft plastics look and feel brand new!  still soft and not rotted at all.....A good point was made about the cranks with Wood swelling in different temps.  My cranks look fine,  no cracks or anything but i wont know how well true they will run in the water until spring.  I'm in North east PA and it gets cold in winter so after 4 years i would say soft plastics hold up pretty well in the cold

dont know about soft baits but hard baits cant freeze. theres nothing there to freeze! theyre wood, metal and plastic. none of those "freeze". they will get very cold though.

however, suprised nobody has brought this up, they are more brittle when theyre extremely cold. dont drop a crank thats been in  freezing temperatures on a hard floor...expcet broken bills.
