This is my favorite blank for deep cranking and just finished a custom build on one. Good mix of flex, feel and backbone.

I like the excel series, but I have had a Sheet mag crank rod and have found that I don't like the glass rods.

may want to look into the quantum pt kvd rods.

god knows kevin has put a beating on them with the 7'10".

that things a beast.

You may want to look at the Loomis 855 MH 7'1" crankbait rod.  I have one and it is the best cranking rod I have ever used.  How ever it is a little pricey and personally I think it is overpriced.  I have purchased a Shimano Crucial crankbait rod in 7'11" M.  It is also a great rod.  I don't think it is in the same league as the Loomis but still I like it very well and use it a great deal probably more than the Loomis as it is lighter.  You will not go wrong with either rod.

you should check out tackletour's crankbait rod comparisons. You have lots of great options. I've got a Phenix x-12 that I love. I like the PHenix rods becuaw they are lighter than most crankbait rods, and I find the lighter rods much easier to use for long periods of time. Especially when throwing med/deep crankbaits. Good luck with your search. take your time
