panfish lures

Featured Replies

well i prefer worm with bobber or bread with bobber.

What do you like?

is a tube just sitting under a bobber good?

I had hits but they never took the bobber under.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you know anything about bowfish i would also like to know.

Could you catch bass this way?

For panfish I use Trout Magnets on the jighead they come with, slowly hopped along the bottom (no bobber). Catches me crappie and sunnies. I also use the Powerbait Nymphs and put them on the tiny jighead that comes with the trout magnets and fish em the same way, I also do this with tiny tubes. All works. Never had much luck with that bobber technique, although Ive seen guys do good like that, especially with a fly beneath. Heres the trout magnet link if your interested, I just love the jigheads they come with, perfect size for panfish, anyways here you go http://lelandslures.com/TM_lures.html.

Try your post in the "Other Species" section.

But with that said, I have caught bass on a white and grey Rooster Tail designed for panfish in addition to small white grubs fished on a 1/64 jig head used for fly fishing.

Bass will hit panfish lures, including those fished using a live worm and with a bobber.

Small tubes or curly tailed grubs hooked through mid body (wacky rigged to bass fisherman) suspended under a bobber is a productive crappie technique.  The floating bobber will give the tube/grub motion.  I've fished this way but found it may be too big of a bait for blugill because their mouths are so small.  Crappie, though, can take them.   Bass will take them, too, but this technique is really suited for crappie.

Bowfin?  They will take anything a bass will take.   Live bait, plastic worms, etc.   The only thing I've never caught one on is a surface lure, like a frog.  They are immensely strong fish.  They have a row of teeth inside their mouth so if you catch one don't stick your thumb in there.

Here's a cool website on bowfin.

I've never caught a bass on a bread ball (maybe when I was a kid, but I can't remeber).   But I've caught various other sunfishes, catfish and shiners.   I like catching shiners on breadballs so I can use the shiner later as bait (usually catch a bowfin on them  ;)).
