Featured Replies

have a mojo bass rod but its the spinnerbait/worm rod. want a rod for throwing lipless crankbaits. escpecially the red eye shad 1/2 oz. im looking at the rod specs for the kvd cranking rods and im torn between a mh and a m. what are your experiences guys? id def like a 7 ft or more also i may be throwing some jerkbaits that are smaller or maybe a little larger. but i def dont want to be tired having an underpowered rod. thanks guys

i bought kvd tour 7 ft rod...used it all last year and love it....

i fished fished a lipless on my buddys 7ft med kvd rod last year and i loved it. some thiefs cleaned out my boat last year so im replacing one of them with that rod.

I have no experience with the KVD rods but I personally like a M power for traps.  There's not really any resistance with those baits so you don't need a stout rod.  I don't think you'd need a MH for smaller jerkbaits either.

Now the M could possibly be the wrong rod if you're fishing grass alot.  The places I fish has very little to no grass, so I couldn't help you if that's the case.

If you are fishing traps in the grass I don't think a med power will get the job done.  At least a mh.  I use a 7'10" moderate fast heavy for rattle baits in the grass.

The med feels pretty stiff on this rod (Not bad but just a little stiffer them most "M" rated rods). The MH is real stiff. If you are torn I would go with the M. I went to BPS the other day to check them out. The rod just felt a little too stiff all around for me. I would say even the M 7ft in this model would be ok in the grass. Normally I would say MH for grass, but since there is no industry standard on rod ratings each company is going to be different for the most part. And the M feels more like a MH. I really dont know what to think about this rod I was in BPS for 3 hours checking out rods and reels and for some reason this rod just felt cheap.

But from reading articles on KVD he likes his cranking rods stiffer than most people. Even though I don't personally like it, that dude is the master at throwing cranks, so I may try one out. Yup the marketing guys got me again!

I often wonder if he is really using the same rod that they sell to the public...
