has anyone tried the new ones? i just bought 1 at dunns. the first time i was in the store they sold out. went back in 2weeks later and they only had a few left and they were 7:1 so i bought 1 of those. hope i didn't throw my money away.

Came across one recently to play around with but not cast or fish with.  Seems like your standard Revo/ProQ/Curado/Pflueger solid baitcaster.

i did some research on it and have been looking at them for awhile. the reels really felt good to me and i guess a lot of other people as they're selling out as fast as they get them here where i live.

Its just another AbuPfleuger Lewcia Pro reel to me.

I think they're trying to position themselves as a direct competitor to Abu Garcia.

Their 6.7 ounce reel for 180 sounds interesting considering how beefy the drag is. I really dig how they're using carbon fiber handles too.

The new owner of Lews was a buyer and product developer for BPS for almost 30 years. There are bound to be similarities in appearance, function, and design.

Heck, they're probably being manufactured by the same folks that have been building BPS rods/reels for years.

If I'm not mistaken BPS reels come from the Pflueger factory

If the New Lew's reels are half as good as the orginal Lew's they have a winner--still have 3 of the "old" reels that work as good and are as smooth as the day I bought them

I read on another site that they come from the same factory that assembles Abu,  Pflueger,  BPS.....

I'll be the guinea pig and buy one .  They look good and it just made the "cut" as far as weight goes. 

Ok, my new Lews will be here by the 12th.  Along with my new Loomis crankin stick, because what good is a new reel without a new rod.  AND I had to get some of those new Mega Bugs and a couple lipless cranks BECAUSE what good is a new rod and reel without some new tackle. :-?

Lew Childres was an innovative pioneer and his original reels were as good as they come. If these reels are made that well they will become very popular.

I bought a Lews about 2 yrs ago and its tough, but i like to oil and greese my reels and i could not get it apart. After some stuggles i broke the cover a bit. It still works, not a good design i dont think, but as for the reel it has been good for me!

As to who makes BPS reels - a frequent question - with many wrong answers probably. ALSO, the answer would be different depending on the particular reel model. Lews fishing has a long history and many of the seasoned pros used Speed Spools in their early careers.  They were and are the most bullet proof reels of their day.  I have 5 BB1N's but shelved them as collector grade because parts are unavailable.  Lew's, like all companies is looking for a portion of the market share.  Like all companies they will use the loyalty of past Lews owners, the reputation of the name, the curiosity of potential buyers, the buyer who wants to be the FIRST to have one and or any other reason that motivates someone to buy the product. If the company re-introduced the BB1N in it's original design, I would buy 5 today. Time will tell if the company generates a following.  I suspect the new generation Lews will be very good reels.

I gave up.  I used to chime in every time this came up, but it never seems to help.  Even later in the same thread someone would  make a post that they "heard" Silstar makes all BPS reels, or somone told them Pflueger makes all BPS reels.

The funny thing is that you rarely hear the same discussions about rods.  People would never believe that there are Shimano, Abu, BPS, and MegaBass rods all coming out of the same factory.

I just read that Mark Menendez will be using Lews this year. I'm sure they will have other pros but this is the first I've seen.
