My new braid knot

Featured Replies

Last year I lost some fish due to the knot (Palomar) slipping out of the hook eye loop with braid. I tried Trokar hooks with the welded hook eye, but hated the points on them since they would bend too easily.  So I have been using the braid knot which gives the knot more bulk and keeps it from sliding and getting through hook eye.

I also didn't have much luck with those trokar hooks. Going to try something new this year. This will be my first year with braid so ill have to give it a try.

I tie a palomar then cut it off and slide it into the area where the hook eye connects (the opening) then I tie the hook on like normal.  The cut off knot fills the gap so that the line can't slip out.

I may have to give that knot a try.

The doubled Uni (I'm not calling it "the Fishin' Fool - he didn't invent it) is much easier to tie than the Berkley braid. I use the doubled Uni for all of my direct tie on superlines. Great knot, and will probably help with the sliding around. Another thought - a dab of superglue. I use it to prevent my line tie from slipping around on R-bend spinnerbaits, and it works with the hook eye-gap issue, too.

Owner hooks are crimped shut, no issues there.
